Rafael Nadal has received praise from every corner of the Tennis world after winning his 13th French Open title by defeating Novak Djokovic in the final. This was the 20th Grand Slam title for Nadal as he has levelled with Roger Federer’s tally. Nadal also won his 100th match at the Roland Garros as he continued his domination on clay.
Meanwhile, Spain’s young player Jaume Munar heaped praise on the legend after winning the Lisboa Belem Open. Munar defeated Portuguese Pedro Sousa (7-6(3), 6-2) and left his mark for the fifth time in the ATP Challenger tour.
Munar trains at the Rafael Nadal academy and he revealed that he trusts the World No.2 a lot. The 23-year old also stated that Nadal helps him a lot to improve his game.
Nadal advised Munar to stay calm and follow the process in the final.
He said, “Rafa is someone I trust and who helps me a lot. Even today, before the final, I spoke to him. He told me to try to be calm, to follow my path, and to continue my work like I’ve been doing all week.”
On the other hand, Munar will be targeting to get back into the ATP Top 100 rankings. Munar’s career best ranking is 52 and he would aim to make a roaring comeback. Munar is currently coached by Tomeu Salva, who is good friends with Rafael Nadal. The youngster added that the win on Sunday is a reward for his hard work and Nadal knows the same.
“What you see on the court is the result of a lot of hard work and Rafa knows that. I train at his academy and my coach is his best friend, so I spend a lot of time with him on and off the court. It is a privilege,” said Jaume Munar.
Munar will look to continue the good show and keep improving his game to get his career on the right path of success. Munar has got the right man backing him and he would aim to make the most of it.
